AMR and Sustainable Development Goals: at a crossroads

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat, causing severe infections, increased health costs, and fatality rates. It impacts the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly affecting underprivileged populations and food production. Climate change contributes to AMR, increasing foodborne salmonellosis and healthcare costs. Addressing AMR requires collaboration among governments, entrepreneurs, and the public sector. Expanding SDG 17 would facilitate global antimicrobial stewardship initiatives, technology transfer, surveillance systems, and vaccine and drug research. Addressing AMR requires international cooperation, robust monitoring, and evaluation methods.
